Abstract

Free convection MHD flow of a viscous incompressible fluid past an infinite vertical plate with heat and mass in the presence of radiation has been studied. The dimensionless governing equations are solved using Laplace transfer technique. The plate temperature and mass concentrations are raised harmonically. The result is obtained for velocity, temperature, concentration, Nusselt number, Sherwood number and skin friction. The effect of various material parameters are discussed on flow variable and presented by graphs.

Abstract

Conventional input-output analysis either in its static form or in its dynamic form normally requires a non-singular coefficient matrix for the solution of its system of equations. This sets a handicap to the handling of interesting systems of equation except by severely reducing its size to the minimum achievable non-singular form, or, to approach the system in ways which do not require the inversion of the coefficient matrix.

Abstract

To reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission from rice and wheat cultivation several mitigation options have been suggested. However, economic impact of these technologies has been poorly documented. In the present study economic analysis of some emerging GHG mitigation technologies for rice-wheat system of the Indo-Gangetic Plains has been carried out. The experiment consisted of six combinations of wheat- rice crop rotation using eight treatments, including conventionally tilled wheat (CTW), zero tilled wheat (ZTW), transplanted puddled rice (TPR), dry direct seeded rice (DSR), intermittent wetting and drying (IWD), application of rice straw (RS) with ZTW and use of neem oil-coated urea (NOCU) in TPR and ZTW. Cost of various inputs and income from grain and straw were used for computing the benefit to cost (B : C) ratio in the different treatments. ZTW showed higher yield and B : C ratio compared to CTW along with reduction in fuel consumption during tillage operation. In spite of lower yield under DSR and IWD, saving of water, labour and energy in these treatments lowered the cost of cultivation and enhanced B : C ratio similar to TPR. Application of rice straw and NOCU also showed positive impact on crop yield. B : C ratio of rice-wheat system ranged from 1.62 to 1.86 in the first year and from 1.86 to 2.16 in the second year. B : C ratio was significantly higher in all the treatments in the experimented rice-wheat system compared to conventional system, i.e. CTW-TPR. The ZTW + RR - DSR (WR5) showed highest B : C ratio followed by ZTW + DSR (WR4) in both the seasons.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: Voice Identification System refers to a system which comprises of hardware, software and it is used to identify voice for several applications. The aim of the research is to develop a small scale system that incorporate both speaker recognition and speech recognition and can show specific visual information to a user. Methods: To this end, we have developed a system based on the technique of Hidden Markov Model. The Hidden Markov Model is a stochastic approach which models the algorithm as a double stochastic process in which the observed data is thought to be the result of having passed a hidden process through second process. Both processes are characterized only through one that is observed. A database of voice information is created. To extract features from voice signals, Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) technique has been applied producing a set of feature vectors. Subsequently, the system uses The Vector Quantization (VQ) for features training and classification. Findings: The designed system has been tested with multiple speakers as reference. Speech recognition based on Hidden Markov Model is achieved successfully for the conversion of speech to text. In this proposed research, speech recognition is achieved with accuracy about 90%. Applications: The system has potential to be used in music industry, crime investigation, personal assistant and in hi-tech devices.

Abstract

Background/Objectives: With the idea of enhancing the capability and effectiveness of decision making while dealing complex problems and under uncertain environments, this article provides an insight to the leading intelligent techniques that could be employed to enrich the decision-making process. Methods/Statistical Analysis: Leading techniques like expert system, artificial neural network, fuzzy system, evolutionary computing, rough set, data mining and intelligent agent are being investigated in this review for analyzing the data so as to take a prudent decision making. Findings: However, one technique does not fit for all problem domains, hence basing on the complexity and to underlying data; it has been found as which technique could be employed for a particular problem to elicit the desired knowledge out of it. Application/Improvements: This study can be helpful for designing an intelligent decision system which can be tailored for the organizations basing on their domain and nature of data. However, a hybrid intelligent technique could be proposed which could handle the decision making process in an extremely efficient manner.

Abstract

The spleen was a source of intrigue to ancient physician and philosophers. It is the largest lymphoid organ takes important part in body immunity, as high incidences of serious bacterial infections were reported following splenectomy in infancy. A research work was carried out in the department of Anatomy, Gauhati Medical College. The histological characteristics of 21 normal human spleens were studied under light microscope in different age groups and to correlate them functionally. The specimen of spleen varies from newborn to eighty year old cadavers, within stipulated time limit after fulfilling the formalities. The spleens were first washed in normal saline, dried with blotting paper. Tissues were fixed, processed and slides were prepared using standard laboratory procedure of haematoxylin and eosin staining. The size of white pulp that seen on histological sections, increase with age, reach its peak around puberty and then involutes. Sizes of white pulp were measured and then statistically analysed using Student's T-test. P value d" 0.05 is considered as statistically significant. The data obtained in this study will help in certain medico-legal practices and will give insight of different clinical presentations. This study may be used as a podium for further sophisticated studies.

Abstract

Spleen is the largest lymphoid organ. It is a haemolymphatic organ containing large amount of lymphatic tissues and plays a vital role in metabolism and defence mechanism of body. It is the largest lymphoid organ and its size varies with individuals' age, sex and underlying metabolic conditions. Spleen takes an important part in body immunity, as high incidences of serious bacterial infections were reported following splenectomy in infancy. A research work was carried out in the department of Anatomy, Gauhati Medical College. The morphological characteristics of 21 normal human spleens were studied in different age groups and to correlate them functionally. The specimen of spleen varies from newborn to eighty year old cadavers, within stipulated time limit after fulfilling the formalities. The spleens were first washed in normal saline, dried with blotting paper, weight was taken by electronic weighing machine and dimensions are measured by verniar calliper. The dimensions and weight were measured and statistically analysed. The recorded data were then statistically analysed using Student's T-test. P value 0.05 is considered as statistically significant. The data obtained in this study will help in certain medico-legal practices. This study may be used as a pedestal for further sophisticated studies.
